Weekly Image Of Life: Of Dreams And Freedom

“It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.”  ~sometimes attributed to M. Grundler

We are very blessed to have many freedoms and rights in our country.   We can dream about the future; we can find peace and happiness in our work,  play and with our family.   But not all countries are as fortunate.   And even in our own country, every single person does not share the same rights as the next person, still to this day.  It’s hard to believe, but it’s true.   It takes the shine and glory out of the word Freedom, when you have friends who are not treated with the same respect as they deserve.

“Human rights is the soul of our foreign policy, because human rights is the very soul of our sense of nationhood.” ~Jimmy Carter

Everyone….no matter what country in the world they live in……should have the same rights and freedoms as all.   Every person in the world should be able to dream about the future,  feel peace, not fear.  Never fear nor hatred.

“So what we’re talking about here is human rights. The right to live like a human. The right to live, period. And what we’re facing in Africa is an unprecedented threat to human dignity and equality.”
~Bono

Any person, no matter what gender, race or creed should be able to read what they want, go where they want, eat where they desire, have the respect they deserve, live without fear of harm, worship where they choose, enjoy the freedom of speech,  have plenty of food and clean water, be able to get an education, and many more.  No person should be treated as less than another.  That’s what human rights means.  We are all human and we deserve the same treatment.

William Faulkner has been a favorite author of mine since I was a teenager.

“We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.”  ~William Faulkner

If we all had the same freedoms, rights, privileges, respect, we could:

Orville & Wilbur Wright, Kitty Hawk, Maryland

~try something new, like the Wright Brothers.  They flew an airplane!

Study of Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. at Fallingwater. Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. is the owner’s son, who studied architecture for a short while under Frank Lloyd Wright.

~have the freedom to read the books you desire, and  also to be able to write books.

Chicago fountain…..

~to be able to travel anywhere, with no hassle, and see other parts of the world.

We need to work hard to make sure that every person in the world has the same rights, freedoms, and respect.  That way,  every person will be able to dream about a future of equality, peace and happiness.

  1. Lovely post, Judy! Wouldn’t that be wonderful, if we could manage to do that? But, somehow, with humans being the way they are, I can’t see that happening… It is something good to live and work for , though. 🙂

    • It is something to work toward, exactly. It’s a pie in the sky hope. I cannot bear to see people treated without respect. Thanks, zelmare!

  2. Your words had me quiet, even breathless for a moment. So much truth that it made me feel sad a bit knowing somewhere in this planet, someone has not felt what it means to be totally free, to have the same rights to life, comfort, dignity, respect, to love , hope and dream, to feel that he/she matters and count, to have a voice, to wake up without fear, to enjoy days of peace, to feel “human.” Every word in this post is a cry of every heart out there, just waiting to be heard.
Judy, these are moving , “We are very blessed to have many freedoms and rights in our country. We can dream about the future; we can find peace and happiness in our work, play and with our family. But not all countries are as fortunate. And even in our own country, every single person does not share the same rights as the next person, still to this day. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. It takes the shine and glory out of the word Freedom, when you have friends who are not treated with the same respect as they deserve.” May inspire them to speak, or speak with them. Truth can be scary, but we all have to face them one day, why not today, right. God bless you and your family.

    • Thank you, IT, for sharing your always insightful words. I appreciate them very much. What I think is missing in part of society today is the feeling of Respct. Respect for each other: for another person’s life, for their beliefs, for their choices, for their differences, for their similarities, and more. Far too many people are hurt because others do not respect them as an equal human being. This is what I’d like to see change. This is a bigger issue than you or I could tackle alone. But working together, we all can achieve great things.

  4. Judy, again a wonderful message and series of photographs, ending in a very nice piece in Chicago. Thanks for keeping the spirit alive.
    Sincerely

  5. This is an important post Judy, we should send it to every dictator on this planet. I have faith that someday, somehow humans will evolve enough spiritually and we’ll see the end of wars, discrimination and even frontiers and everyone will live in peace and freedom. I also hope we will stop destroying our environment. Unfortunately I don’t think these days are in a near future but I have faith !

    • We both have the same hopes, Jocelyne! I know to some people it sounds like reaching for something that is impossible, but if we all try to work toward this goal, eventually things will turn around. Perhaps not totally, but hopefully they will get better than they are now. I love what you said: “I have faith…!” Wonderful!
It can be as simple as one blogger suggested last week: “when someone comes to visit you, have mercy on them and don’t let them leave your home without a cheerful smile from you..” (that’s not exactly how it was…but similar). If we all pass a smile to someone else each day…we can start spreading the Love and Respect. When I’m leaving the gym, so many people are on their way in with a straight or a sour face on them. I say: “Good morning! Hi! Isn’t it a nice day? or…”It’s sunny inside!” They always look up and smile and say something back or laugh. And then I’m happy too! 🙂
