Florence is a beautiful city, busy, bustling and full of people, walking, riding bikes, Vespas, motorcycles and driving cars.  The Arno River runs through the city and under several bridges that were built in the 1200-1300”s.  Only the Ponte Vecchio … Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Free Spirit

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.  To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.” ~Helen Keller

Weekly Image of Life: Summertime Blast~ Zion National Park

We had a Rockin’ good summertime blast at Zion National Park!

And you know why!   There were lots of gorgeous rocks to gaze at, hike upon, and take photos of.

Here are some more of those larger than life creations of nature~

This was taken at the start of our  Emerald Pools Hike….
It was a great hike to take, alongside the river,  on a warm day’s BLAST of heat in Zion canyon.

This was taken on the Riverside Walk Trail.  I wanted to have a comparison between the rock and people, to show how large the rock is.

I waited until the couple got to the large slab of rock, and then I snapped the shutter.

A massive slab of rock that fell a long time ago, rests against the mountain.

The last photo shows the LAST BLAST of SUMMER……a colorful summer sunset.

The last sunset we saw on our trip.

Where did you enjoy a summertime blast this year?

Thanks for visiting!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Summer

When I think of summer, I think of going to Lake Michigan.  Our daughter and her husband live there and it’s fun to visit them for a day or two. (hope they agree!)  The beautiful beach is five minutes away,  the pier is a great place to walk,  and even the ice cream tastes better!

Sunsets are gorgeous over the lake……but this photo shows the setting sun’s reflection on clouds in the eastern sky.  It was a double delight that night!

It’s time to enjoy summer!  Yay!

Frederik Meijer Gardens, Grand Rapids, MI.

Hi everyone!

I’ve posted about Frederik Meijer Gardens before;  but we went there in late April, and I wanted to share some of the spring photos.
Frederik Meijer began one of the largest grocery chains in Michigan.   It ultimately grew to serve Illinois, Ohio and Indiana too.   Since Grand Rapids is his home base, he began Frederik Meijer Gardens as a place where the community and visitors from all over the world, can come, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

A pond in the garden with a simple bench for reading or relaxing.

A pond in the gardens with an inviting bench.

A simple shed turns into a magical place with pink dogwood branches making an entrance arch.

A shed is tucked away under spring flowers, like a secret house.

Pretty falls sparkle in the sun; splashing water on the rocks as it tumbles to the bottom.

Cool spring water flows softly down the rocky falls, diving into the pond.

The palace must be her home, she thinks, as this dainty royal purple tulip bows her head.

A heavy water-laden purple tulip bows royally.

After a sleepy winter, the pond awakes with soft colors, mirroring the new buds around its perimeter.

A pond shows off its reflection with new spring buds.

A quick storm blows through and sets off a flurry of activity in the sky.  The clouds form amazing, cotton candy puffs and colors to dazzle the eyes.

The storm is over; the clouds have a party in the sky.

Shades of blue and pink decorate the late evening sky. What a treat!

Thanks for going to Grand Rapids with me!

Old Sunsets and a New Moon

In late February I took these photos of a sunset I thought looked like fireworks.   As I walked to the house in near darkness, I glanced over my shoulder.  There was the new moon shining brightly through the trees.  A fitting end to a pretty sunset.

Warm and fluffy, deep and puffy,
Sometimes a blanket just won’t do.

Snuggle under my soft thick cover,
And have yourself a rest.

My designs excite, my hues delight,

Today’s sunsets….

Hello blog readers~
We had a really cool sunset tonight.  I was dancing around with my tripod like crazy.  I’m always trying to catch the tall porcupine grass in the setting sun!  Unfortunately it catches the breeze far too easily and blurs in the photo.  Oh well, maybe another time!   The sunset colors were very intense….I just had to share a few photos with you!

Because I wasn't shooting in an open area, I wasn't able to catch much in the way of cloud variations~ with the trees all around me. But in the photo above you can see a bit of variance in the clouds.I do like the tree in the upper right corner, as a "frame"!

A horizontal view.............

Here are the elusive porcupine grass “feathers” or seed heads.  Because they are more of a silhouette, it’s not as noticeable that they are shmeared or blurry in the photo!!  😉

Thanks for visiting!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Hello to my wonderful blog readers!

Another year has come to an end.  The sun is setting on 2011.  We must say good-bye to this year and all its ups and downs, its joys and sorrows, its celebrations and quiet times.  But a new year awaits us!  A brand new, fresh, sparkling year.

We have a fresh slate….    It’s time to start writing in the sand!

The Keweenaw Peninsula is known for its beautiful rocks, many with red
colors, due to the iron in the area.

Sunsets: poetry in the sky~

Hello Readers!

Among my favorite things to shoot with my camera…..sunsets rank very high.   What a joy it is to see the color of the sky deepening and changing; the clouds highlighted by the sun, and the water (if available) reflecting the sun’s rays.  Depending on many conditions,  sunsets seem to unfold slowly some days, and more quickly on others.

Some sunsets are full of intense colors: red, orange and purple.  Others are softer with pale, pastel colors.  “Sunset colors are typically more brilliant than sunrise colors, because the evening air contains more particles than morning air.” (Wikipedia.org)

Some days can be dark, cloudy and rainy…..but at the end of the day we can be surprised by a beautiful sunset.

Here are a few of mine….
