Yellowstone National Park is a favorite of mine. Yellowstone has a varied topography, from mountains to valleys, rocky cliffs to smooth lakes, rivers and waterfalls, mud pots and hot springs, geysers and marshes, and more. Then there are the animals…grizzlies, black bear, elk,, wolves, moose, coyotes, bison…and the list goes on. There’s never a dull moment in Yellowstone, and so much to see, no one could ever be “bored”!
Today I am concentrating on the Hayden Valley in Yellowstone. There is a great concentration of bison in this valley, and sometimes the vehicle traffic comes to a complete stop because of the bison “traffic”! It is truly a beautiful sight to see the bison scattered about in their natural habitat. Sometimes you are lucky enough to get a “performance” by the bison, as in my second photo! As with all wild animals, bison are nothing to fool around with. You must keep your distance, as they can charge on the spur of the moment and they are capable of moving very fast.
Two male bison going “head to head” in this photo.

Stunning! Love the vivid blues again! These are really beautiful pictures, Judy, your passion shines through the lens.
Elisa
Thank you, Elisa…you are so very very kind.
The bison shot is incredible!
Thank you very much! Thanks for stopping by, too!
Love the first picture. You’re right about the varied topography. Sure takes my breath away.
Thanks Tess! It does…so many different things to see there!
This is absolutely beautiful, Judy! Really love the pics! 🙂 am kinda jealous lol u get to see all these cool places. 😉
I have been lucky, yes. We drive. It takes us two nights on the road with long driving days. It might take you three nights on the road.
Thanks for your comments, Elyas! The Adirondack Mountains are closer to you and are beautiful. I think they are only a few hrs away.
I spent many summers camping there as a child. It’s a beautiful part of New York State.
Thank you Judy for the recommendation. I will definitely consider it! 🙂
I’ll even give you maps and books! 😉 I’m a walking library when it comes to the National Parks!
That would be awesome! 🙂 Even an e-map or e-book would do the trick! 😉 Thanks Judy! 🙂
YW, Elyas! Just to let you know…I’m on vacation and will return in a week. I don’t have reg. internet access. See you soon… 🙂
Aww I wonder you disappeared! 🙂 I have missed you! Enjoy your vacation, Judy! Am sure you are taking lovely pictures! 😀
I did vanish! Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone. ;( I’ll post it. Thanks, Elyas!
Sounds like an amazing place, beautiful and interesting with the wide variety of wild life. Maybe one day I’ll get to visit. Love the first picture, the colours are really intense. 🙂
Thank you, zelmare. It is amazing there. They always have visitors from all over the world. It’s a very interesting park!
Nice post Judy. “Head to head” is well captured.
Thank you, Jim. I wasn’t about to get close! I always had the car between them and me! (a lot of folks don’t pay heed to warnings and march right toward them for that “special photo”…scary!)
I love these buffalo shots. I really want to see a buffalo in the wild.
It’s as close as Cody, Wyoming! 😉 Thanks for visiting!
Well I’m in Raleigh, NC so that’s quite a ways – I’ll get there though, I’ll make myself! : )
Great!!! That’s not too far! It could be a lot farther!!
The second photo is quite a capture! We have been stopped before in Yellowstone by bison showing traffic who is boss! I don’t argue. However, I cringed at the people walking towards bison (and even bull moose) to get a photo. You could tell the animals were annoyed. I keep my distance. Getting that close is not worth it for me – not for any photo.
Exactly! I stay in the car, or stand on the OTHER side of the car and take a photo over the roof! I want that distance! When you visit the parks you see all kinds of craziness, I agree. Three years ago, we saw a young boy pulling his younger sister by the hand way beyond the guard rail toward the edge of a cliff over Yellowstone Canyon. I nearly lost my dinner. Their parents were watching! Other people were standing at the pull-out too. I just wanted to say to the parents: are you out of your minds? That event upset me all evening.
I was only able to go once about a million years ago (well, maybe more like 20) and your pictures really bring it back. We weren’t lucky enough to see anything like that 2nd picture, but we did see some bison walking along the road. Beautiful pictures – thank you for bringing those memories back!
Sheila, you’re welcome! When a bunch of girlfriends went about 5 years ago, we kept seeing an old bison walking on the shoulder of the roads. We nicknamed him Elvis! I’ll have to post a photo of him I took from inside the car! A little boy was chasing after him. People do all sorts of weird things. A year later, my husband and I went back and I just know I saw dear Elvis again, plodding along! So I’ll bet it was a young Elvis you saw! 😉 That second photo was during mating season I think….so there was a lot of activity.
That’s funny – he did look a bit like Elvis! 🙂
I’ll bet it was the same one! Here’s to Elvis! 😉
Beautiful variation in color.
Thank you Lily! I love the Hayden Valley. I have lots of bison photos, if you have about 3 hours…. 😉 lol
Beautiful photos – Have a Great Day:)
Thanks Renee!
simply stunning photos Judy.
I am so so jealous 😀
Thank you, Amira. I think these guys would get mighty warm in the Maldives. Do you have yaks, goats, sheep or any thick coated animals there?
This made me break out in song! Guess which one? Margie
hahahaha…….something to do with a “stove” perhaps? lol
Oh ! I would love to go there ! Just reading you gave me goosebumps ! It must be something to see and witness these altercations between the bisons ! I would have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming… We’re so use to see this only on TV or magazines.
I love the contrast of colours in the first photo and the lighting is beautiful in the second and so sharp !
Did you visit Yellowstone more than once ?
VERY beautiful photos Judy !
Hi Jocelyne….I went to Yellowstone 4 times. It’s such an awesome park. Thanks for your comments on my photos! It made me smile!
We had traveled there on a cross states camping adventure.
It was before I decided to love photo taking. Now, I’ll have
to go back again … but … no camping this time. The bones
will not survive. ~~~~~ : – 0
Nice capture …..
lol…I know what you mean! When we went camping the last time we had aero beds! 😉 A step up from those skinny little air mattresses!
Now I’ve made the decision not to tent camp where there are bears. Sooo now I find out every state has bears! haha
Great shots, Judy! The first one is awesome with its brilliant shades. And the second one is a rare moment. Lovely!
Thanks so much, Bindu! You made my day! 😉
The first picture is truly breathtaking!
Thank you so much Madhu! Such kind words!
Both of these shots are lovely! I love the composition and coloring in the first photo – fantastic! 🙂
Thank you Heather! It’s a great compliment coming from you!
Great pic, Judy. I have always wanted to go into the park. Have skirted it during my travels, but never stopped there.
I love Bison. Such a strong animal.
Hey..MJ! Thank you kindly. It’s a great place! Next time stop in~ you won’t regret it. PS..I sound like I work for the national park service…but I don’t!!! lol

Jocelyne…
Hi! I’ve been to Yellowstone 4 times, I think. It is a wondrous place, like most national or provincal parks. I guess Yellowstone differs from the others in the number and variety of geological phenomena, and the great animal sightings. Thanks so much for your lovely comments, Jocelyne! I’m on vacation for another week and I don’t have reg. internet access here. I’ll look forward to visting with you soon!
